Support for families with a small child through individual mentorship

In addition to the great joy about the addition to the family, the first time after the birth can also bring great challenges.

With our project "bärenstark ins Leben®" (strong into life) with volunteer family mentors of the early help, we offer unbureaucratic relief at the start of the turbulent everyday family life through the use of trained, volunteer family mentors. This offer is available to all families already during pregnancy or with children from 0 to 3 years, in Neukölln, Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf, Tempelhof-Schöneberg and Mitte. In particular, our offer is aimed at families with multiples, single parents, very young parents, families with a sick or disabled family member, families with financial worries, families with a migration background. The family sponsorship can last up to 2 years and is unbureaucratic and free of charge for the families.

Your Tasks

You would go to the family once or several times a week and give practical support where it is needed. The families agree with you on the kind of relief they want, such as playing, going for a walk with the children, accompanying them to doctor's appointments and visits to the authorities. For the families, as well as for the godmother or godfather, joy and fun should be in the foreground, in addition to the relief.

What's needed

It would be great if you are tolerant, friendly and loving with children and above all enjoy working with young parents and their babies and toddlers.

A police clearance certificate.

Time required

You would go to the family once or several times a week for up to 2 to 4 hours (depending on how much time you have) and give practical support where it is needed.

Important notice

If you bring a resume at the preliminary interview would be nice, but is not a must. :)

The project "bärenstark ins Leben" with volunteering family mentors of the Sozialdienstes katholischer Frauen e.V. Berlin (SkF) (social service of catholic women Berlin) is a preventive family mentorship project. The SkF is a professional women's association of the catholic church which supports women and families in need.
The family mentor gets from us a qualification to become a family mentor with a final certificate as well as a refunding of the travel expenses. She/he is also supported by our qualified volunteer coordinators who give professional advice.
